Poached buck
«
on:
November 16, 2008, 04:47:37 PM »
I was driving down the road and I spotted this buck dead out on the hillside about 150 yards across the ravine. I was pissed. I had been following a track that I suspected was a poacher but I suppose it could have been another photographer, but I doubted it. I got out, fixed my lens, took a couple pics then sat there looking at him through the binos.

Did I see his war twitch. I grunted, yelled, got back in the truck, moved it ahead, got out, got another camera angle still NOTHING
I must have been seeing things. I was trying to figure out what to do. It was laying in plain site. Do I photgraph it, gather evidence what???

That really P!sses me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>: That buck died needlessly!!!!!!
Bone, that is a great photo, and a great way to honor a buck killed by an idiot.
I hope you have called the law, so they can do a proper investigation.

I got into my truck then moved ahead. On the other side of the bush there was a doe sitting at full attention. NOW WAIT A MINUTE There is no way she is going to be sitting next to a dead buck. I grabbed a pair of sheds and slammed them together......WELL YOU LITTLE rascal. She plum had him tired out.
I thought he was dead. YAY!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO!!!
I was just going to post something about the damn poachers and "what a waste of a great lookin' buck"!
I was wondering why his eyes were closed. I've harvested a good number of bucks but had never had one close his eyes unless they were wounded and wandered off and layed down to expire.
Great photos though!!! THANKS

I hear ya hunt. I WAS PISSED. I stumble onto several carcasses per year. Anyway, then I couldn't get him to look at me. That FART! So I drive down and get right under him and up the hill I go. I should have changed cameras though. I came out about 10 feet from him and there he was. THEN GONE!

He wasn't dead so it really doesn't matter now,but how exactly could you tell he was killed by a poacher from 150yds?

That was speculation Rick. he was laying in a funny spot out in the open, right where someone could have got him etc. I could not raise him. I mean sitting there with the stereo cranked banging on a drum with Rhiana "disturbia", slamming car doors, whistling, honked horn etc, and nothing. I thought it was strange. Course the doe didn;t get up and move either, but at least she was looking at me. It took me getting within 10 feet of him to make him WAKE UP.

I'm surprised that when you played "disturbia" he didn't run off to the next county with his horns stuffed in his ears!
